The B.C. Ministry of Environment has issued an air quality advisory for Courtenay, with open burn restrictions in effect for the Comox Valley.

The ministry says high levels of fine particulates are expected to persist until weather changes.

Anyone with chronic illnesses is advised to not do any strenuous activities until the advisory is lifted.

An open burning restriction is also in effect for the Comox Valley within 15 kilometres of Courtenay City Hall.

The ban will last for two days where no new fires can be started and no additional material can be added to an existing fire.
