North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say a manslaughter charge has been approved in a Duncan homicide from March 1, 2021.

An 18-year old, who was a minor at the time of offence and therefore cannot be named, has been charged with manslaughter relating to an early morning assault where one man died.

Around 1 a.m. on March 1, 2021, police attended a residence on Cowichan Lake Road after receiving multiple reports of an assault with a weapon.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two men, one who immediately surrendered to police.

The other man, who was 17-years old according to family, was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where he later died.

The 18-year old’s court date is for today, and he will remain in custody until his hearing.

The charge has not been proven in court.
