Nanaimo RCMP says a man was rushed to hospital early Saturday morning with multiple stab wounds after an altercation outside a local nightclub.

The incident happened around 12:10 a.m. near the Old City Station Pub at 150 Skinner Street.

RCMP officers performed first aid on the 35-year-old victim within minutes of their arrival and the man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police say he remains in hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators went through video surveillance and spoke to witnesses and have determined a fight broke out on the street in front of the nightclub and the victim appeared to have sustained the injuries during the melee.

Nanaimo RCMP says several people believed to be involved in the altercation have been identified and are in police custody.

“This does not appear to be a random incident. To date, no charges have been laid and the investigation is being actively investigated,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a statement.

Police ask anyone who has cell phone video or information about the incident to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
