A man accused of assault in two incidents was arrested in Beacon Hill Park Wednesday.

The man was wanted on two warrants relating to assaults of employees at two businesses.

The first occurred on May 20, 2020 when the man allegedly assaulted a worker who confronted him after a theft at a store in the 1600-block of Hillside Avenue.

The employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police found a replica firearm on the man in breach of his court-ordered conditions.

After his arrest, he was released on conditions pending a future court date.

The second incident occurred Nov. 13, 2020 at a restaurant in the 100-block of Douglas Street.

Police say the man, who was living in Beacon Hill Park at the time, stole food from the restaurant and when confronted by staff, spit at an employee in contravention of COVID-19 public health orders.

After a “brief struggle” with officers, he was arrested and released with conditions and a pending court date.

Police say the man also had a history of previous convictions relating to assault, theft, mischief and of breaching court-ordered conditions.

Wednesday’s arrest came as a result of the man breaching his court-ordered conditions, according to officials.

The man was taken into custody and transferred to Victoria police cells where he was held for his next court date.
