Man taken into custody in Lake Cowichan following large police presence

A man has been taken into custody following an incident requiring a large police presence in Lake Cowichan Saturday night.

The RCMP responded to the 200-block of South Shore Road at 10:23 p.m., extra officers allocated to the Sunfest Country Music Festival were also called into the area.

Police were able to locate the suspect shortly after at 10:50 p.m.

“He was taken into custody without incident,” said Cpl. Rory Goncalves of the Lake Cowichan RCMP.

“The investigation is ongoing and there is no danger to the public.”

A witness reported that six-vehicles had responded and some officers had their firearms in hand.
