Man suspected of stealing jewelry arrested after assaulting RCMP officer at Nanaimo Yacht Club

According to the Nanaimo RCMP, these items were among a number of stolen jewelry found on a man who was recently arrested at the Nanaimo Yacht Club.

A man arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Nanaimo couldn’t explain why he had a bunch of jewelry in his possession, according to RCMP.

According to the Nanaimo RCMP, a man was caught trying to enter a boat stored at the Nanaimo Yacht Club by the club’s caretaker at around 11 a.m. on Sept. 6.

RCMP say when officers arrived, the man resisted arrest and briefly struggled with the officers.

Once arrested, police conducted a search of the man’s clothing and found a number of jewelry items including a ruby ring, silver ladies watch, and a gold chain with a diamond pendant.

RCMP say the man couldn’t provide a reasonable explanation as to why he had the items, resulting in officers seizing them. Investigators are now working to locate the owners of the allegedly stolen jewelry.

The unidentified 32-year-old man was later released on an undertaking for assaulting a police officer and causing a disturbance.

No court date has been set.
