Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a hit and run early Sunday morning that has left a 56-year-old man with serious injuries.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 600-block of Milton Street.

Police say they spoke with several witnesses who did not see the collision but heard the impact and found an injured male on the side of the road.

Witnesses also told investigators they heard the sound of a vehicle engine revving and driving away, with parts of a motor vehicle among several items found at the scene.

Around 9:30 a.m., officers located a grey 2004 Toyota Corolla parked in front of a home in the 100-block of Gillespie Street.

Investigators believe the vehicle may have been involved in the hit and run based on evidence gathered at the crash scene and damage found to the vehicle.

RCMP says the vehicle has been seized and a warrant is being obtained to examine it further.

The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, but he remains in hospital.

Nanaimo RCMP is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision and not spoken to police to call their non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

“Additionally, any motorists with dash-cam video who were in the vicinity at the time of the crash, are asked to review their videos for any possible evidence relating to the suspect vehicle,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a statement.
