Three people were taken to hospital, including one person with life-threatening injuries, following a series of crashes near Qualicum Beach early Saturday morning.

Oceanside RCMP officers were called to a crash on Highway 19A just north of Qualicum Beach around 2:55 a.m.

Investigators say they learned that a first crash initially occurred when a woman drove off the road and struck a pole, possibly because of the weather.

Another driver, a man, saw the crash and pulled over to try and help the woman. While the pair were standing outside their vehicles, a third car came and struck the woman’s car – and hit the first two individuals.

All three people suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital by ambulance. Police say the man who had pulled over to help the woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the third vehicle is being investigated for impaired driving,” said RCMP in a release Saturday.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111.
