A Mount Washington staff member is dead after a rollover crash near the ski resort late Monday night.

According to North Island Traffic Services, the crash happened just before midnight at the Strathcona Parkway and Nordic Drive.

RCMP said a pickup truck with three people inside was heading up the mountain toward the village, on a downhill stretch of road. when the male driver lost control, crossed the centre line, then come back into his lane of traffic. The driver then went into a snow bank and the truck rolled.

The 30-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

RCMP, BC Ambulance and Oyster River Fire all went to the crash. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man and woman who were passengers in the truck suffered minor injuries.

Police believe speed and alcohol are possible contributing factors. The collision is under investigation.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort has confirmed the man was a staff member. He was returning to his residence when the crash happened.
