
The Nanaimo RCMP say a local man has been charged with arson and mischief after a string of fires were set along the Nanaimo Parkway near Northfield Road.
The fires were spotted around noon Tuesday and a witness told fire crews that they saw a man setting fires along the walking trail in the area.

Mounties say 35-year-old Kevin Macey-Gerard was arrested at the time and has remained in police custody since then.
He appeared in a bail hearing Friday where he was with one count of arson and one count of mischief, according to RCMP.
He was also charged with breaking and entering as part of an unrelated incident that occurred in south Nanaimo on June 15.
Mounties say Macey-Gerard remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court on July 11.
