The West Shore RCMP have arrested a man, who is suspected of chasing two people through a wooded area while wielding a machete.

According to a police report, West Shore RCMP said that on June 29 at around 7 p.m. in the evening, officers attended the scene of a “makeshift homeless encampment” in a forested area near Highway 1 and Millstream Rd.

RCMP had received a report that a man and a woman had been chased by the suspect through the area after he had accused the pair of stealing his stuff.

The duo said that after being accused of stealing, the suspect brandished a machete and slashed up their tent as well. According to police, the pair said that the man with the machete continued to yell at them, while allegedly holding the machete against their necks and claiming he would cut them.

Once on scene, officers were able to locate the suspect and seize the machete.

The 26-year old man was arrested by RCMP for assault with a weapon

A rapid police response in this dangerous situation prevented any further violence. Our officers successfully used de-escalation during the arrest of the suspect who was described by witnesses as having ‘lost his mind and high on drugs’, says Staff Sergeant Raj Sandhu, West Shore RCMP Operations NCO.

The man is scheduled to appear in court, however, none of these allegations have been proven.
