Police say a man was arrested Wednesday morning following an alleged sexual assault in the 1900 block of Store Street.
Victoria police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged sexual assault early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident allegedly occurred in the 1900 block of Store Street just before 1:30 a.m. Police said officers were made aware of the alleged assault after a witness flagged down patrol officers.
The officers found the reported victim and pulled over the suspect’s vehicle a short time later.
The investigation led to the suspect’s vehicle being impounded for three days. He also received a three-day driving probation.
The man was arrested and VicPD officers are recommending charges of sexual assault with a weapon, robbery, assault and choking to overcome resistance. Police said the investigation is ongoing but it does not appear the alleged assault was a random incident as the suspect and the victim are known to each other. The suspect is still in custody and his name has not been released at this time.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
