VicPD says that they rescued a man and his dog from his live-aboard vessel in the Gorge Waterway

A man and his dog were rescued by VicPD and Saanich Police Department officers after his boat sunk in the Gorge Waterway early Friday morning.

VicPD say that officers responding to a report of a sinking boat just after 4:35 a.m. arrived near the west side of Tillicum bridge to find the boat already capsized, with the man and his dog clinging to the side.

Officers say the man lived aboard the boat with his dog and they were able to throw a line to him.

The man was then encouraged to swim to a nearby ladder exit from the waterway, while the boat was swept away by the current. A VicPD K9 officer entered the water to assist the man in exiting safely.

Saanich Police officers were able to rescue the dog safely as well.

The man was warmed by officers using their jackets until Paramedics arrived and transported him to hospital.
