The Victoria Police Department has seized a loaded rifle, fentanyl, cash and other drugs following the execution of a search warrant earlier this week.

In a report issued on Thursday, Victoria Police say that the warrant was executed on the afternoon of January 6 at a downtown hotel in the 700-block of Burdett Ave.

According to VicPD, patrol officers learned that a man was in possession of a firearm and drugs at the location and immediately applied for a warrant.

Police say that with the assistance of VicPD’s Strike Force and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, the warrant was executed with both a man and woman inside the property.

During the execution of the warrant, officers located “trafficking amounts of drugs and cash,” along with a loaded, semi-automatic assault-style rifle.

Police note that the rifle had a round in the chamber and the safety was in the ‘off’ position.

Both people were arrested following the search.

According to police, the man was held in custody.

Officers say they are recommending 15 charges including charges in regards to the firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking and breaches of court-ordered conditions.
