This Sunday, the local documentary film based around David Smith and Western Speedway, “Before I’m Gone”, is premiering at 6 p.m. on CHEK News.
In the 1970s, Smith’s team was the first to win a major Nascar race in the United States. As a racecar builder, his cars were known to be the most successful cars at Western Speedway.
Smith was later diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. The film documents that period of his life, along with his return to the Western Speedway.
Immediately following the documentary is live coverage of Western Speedway’s Shockwave Seats Canada 200 at 7 p.m.
The live camera work will be handled by Roll.Focus., with several unique angles in mind. CHEK News will provide the on-air talent, with Cole Sorenson providing lead commentary and Jeff King working the pits.
