One person has died and two people are in hospital following an explosion at the North Saanich Marina this afternoon.
BC Coroners Service confirmed the death in a statement released late Sunday evening.
According to the BC Emergency Health Services, they received reports of an explosion at the North Saanich Marina at around 3:54 p.m. on Sunday and that six ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
They say paramedics arrived on scene and provided treatment and transported two people to hospital.
BC RCMP told CHEK News the fire isn’t considered suspicious and that officers will be on scene for a number of hours.
North Saanich Fire Department were among those on scene yesterday.
An employee with the marina told CHEK News that there was a fire at the marina but that they were not there when it began. Another employee said the fire started on one of the boats.
Multiple people nearby told CHEK News they heard “explosions” coming from the marina followed by flames.
