Labour Day Rally at the BC Legislature draws hundreds

Hundreds of people gathered on the lawn of the BC Legislature in Victoria this afternoon for the annual Labour Day Rally.

Organized by the Victoria Labour Council, the event drew politicians, business and union leaders who say even in a healthy economy, workers face challenges.

“For many working people they’re having a really hard time making ends meet,” says Michael Eso, Victoria Labour Council President.

“I think that’s our challenge going forward and in a community like greater Victoria it’s especially exacerbated because we have the second or third highest housing cost in the province.”

“Businesses are having a hard time finding workers because workers are having a hard time finding a place to live and these are challenges we didn’t face a few years ago.”

Today’s rally was one of dozens held at cities across the country.
