Kids jump, shout and cartwheel for joy at cheerleader camp

Ten to 14-years-old live the dream at UVic Vikes week-long Cheer Camp.

The camp is overseen by Vikes cheerleading coach and former team member Michan Hedges.

During their exposure to the typical drills, the kids, all girls, in this case, are called upon to go a bit outside their normal comfort zone to achieve some of the manoeuvres.

Coach Hedges pointed out that the sport of cheerleading, which may be included in the 2022 Olympic Games, is a great athletic workout that teaches trust and teamwork.

Many of the campers hope to one day achieve their goal of wearing the blue and gold of the Vikes Cheer Team.
