Saanich police say a black bear was spotted on May 21, 2020.

Saanich Police took to Twitter to let residents know about a seemingly harmless black bear, walking in the 51000block of Interurban Road Thursday morning.

The tweet said the bear was not aggressive, or even eating garbage, “just strolling along” in a neighbourhood near Beaver Lake.

The police thanked everyone in the area who had bear-proofed their properties and reminds everyone else to do so.

Police confirmed BC Conservation was informed of the visiting bear.

Earlier this month, a black bear was seen in the afternoon, trying to get into garbage at a home on Goward Road.

A resident was able to yell at the garbage-snooping bear and chase it away.

In other bear-news, more grizzly bears seem to be coming over to Northern Vancouver Island, to find new territory after being pushed out by bigger bears.
