Rifflandia is turning up the heat.
The music festival has expanded its Sunday, Sept. 17 lineup, adding Spice Girls’ alum Melanie C, aka “Sporty Spice,” to the stage at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.
While Melanie’s performance time has not yet been announced, Nick Blasko, the festival’s director and co-founder, tells CHEK News her DJ set “will be fun.”
She’s been DJing in the U.K. for several years, says Blasko.
“It’s about legends and icons and people who have a great history, and frankly just having a lot of fun with what they’re doing. It rounds out the Sunday really nicely,” he said Monday.
“We have a lot of legends this weekend.”
The Spice Girls, a British girl group, formed in 1994 with five members. Their debut single, “Wannabe,” was released in ’96 and hit number one in more than 30 countries. The group later broke up in 2000 but has reunited for performances since then.
Rifflandia teased Melanie’s performance in an Instagram story Monday, saying a “big announcement” was coming.
“The park lineup just got spicier. Any guesses who we’ve added?”
Rifflandia just wrapped its first weekend, “Electric Avenue,” in downtown Victoria with performances by Chris Lake, Paris Hilton and Run the Jewels, to name a few.
Blasko said it was a “smashing success” and organizers “couldn’t be happier. It went very, very well.”
Next is “The Park” — the three-day event, happening Sept. 15-17, to culminate the festival at the park on Caledonia Avenue. Blasko says it’s a “huge weekend” for staff and festivalgoers alike.
“It’s our most high-profile collection of artists,” he exclaimed.
Along with Melanie C, who’s travelling from London, U.K., Diplo, Iggy Pop, Salt-N-Pepa and more are scheduled to perform.
