Island Health declares new COVID-19 outbreaks at 5 long-term care homes

Island Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at five new long-term care facilities on Vancouver Island.

The outbreaks are at facilities located in Brentwood Bay, Courtenay, Duncan, Nanaimo and Saanichton.

On a positive note, the health authority also declared the outbreaks at Revera Glenwarren Lodge (Victoria), The Summit at Quadra Village (Victoria), Eagle Ridge Manor (Port Hardy), Fir Park Village (Port Alberni) and Saanich Peninsula Hospital (long-term care units) over.

Island Health says 11 total residents at both Summit at Quadra Village and Eagle Ridge Manor tested positive while 13 residents and five staff at Fir Park Village also test positive. At Saanich Peninsula Hospital, 40 resident cases were linked to the outbreak. At Revera Glenwarren Lodge, 26 resident cases and 21 staff cases were attributed to the outbreak at that facility, according to Island Health.

Details on the new outbreaks are below.

Sunridge Place long-term care home (Duncan)

Fifteen resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the 2nd floor.

Sunridge Place is owned and operated by Park Place Seniors Living.

Sluggett House long-term care home (Brentwood Bay)

Four resident cases and one staff case have been identified related to this outbreak.

Sluggett House is owned and operated by Beacon Community Services.

Island View Place Care long-term care home (Saanichton)

Island Health says two resident cases have been identified and that the outbreak declaration is limited to the 2nd floor of the facility.

Glacier View Lodge long-term care home (Courtenay)

According to Island Health, eight resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak.

The health authority says the outbreak declaration is limited to the Rose unit (wings three and four).

Glacier View Lodge, located at 2450 Back Rd., is owned and operated by Glacier View Lodge Society.

Nanaimo Seniors Village long-term care home

Six resident cases and one staff case have been identified related to this outbreak.

Nanaimo Seniors Village is owned and operated by West Coast Seniors Housing Management.
