British Columbia's death toll from COVID-19 surpasses 2,700

More than 2,700 people in British Columbia have now died from COVID-19.

In the B.C. government’s latest update Monday, officials announced  32 deaths related to COVID-19 over the last three days, bringing the overall death toll to 2,707.

Of those 32 fatalities, five were in Island Health region while 14 of the fatalities were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.

Nearly 91 per cent of adults have received their second dose of a vaccine, and the provincial government says almost 53 per cent of residents have had a third shot.

Officials also say that in the past two weeks, over 68 per cent of hospitalized patients who tested positive for COVID-19 had been fully vaccinated.

A total of 57 long-term care, assisted living and acute-care facilities have outbreaks across all five health authorities in the province.
