Island athletes shine at BC Summer Games

WATCH: There’s 427 athletes representing Vancouver Island this weekend at the 2018 BC Summer Games in Duncan, and some of our Zone 6 participants have quite the story to tell.

Athletes like Mira Calder, who is the daughter of two-time Olympian Dave Calder is competing in rowing for Vancouver Island at the event. Ashton Combdon, who we profiled earlier in the year captured a bronze medal in wrestling. Ashton underwent many surgeries as a child to solve a mysterious disease, and after 50 procedures in 10 years, Combdon is now thriving on the mat. And lastly, Ashlyn Smart is a 13-year-old basketball player from Comox, who is playing for her dad, who she never got to know.
