A section of a popular trail in Saanich has reopened after it was closed due to a sewage spill.

The Interurban Rail Trail between Interurban Avenue and Hartland Avenue had closed temporarily due to a sewage spill that occurred after a nearby pump station failed late Friday evening.

According to the Capital Regional District, as of Saturday afternoon, the trail has fully reopened after crews “successfully” cleaned up the spill.

The pump station that failed was on the Residual Solids Conveyance Line, which flows from McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Residuals Treatment Facility at Hartland Landfill.

The CRD says crews found the cause of the failure and the pump station is now running normally.
