An armed, barricaded individual was taken into custody after several hours of negotiations on March 19.

A person with a weapon was taken to hospital after crisis negotiators and an emergency response team were called to a home in Esquimalt Monday.

Victoria police were called to the 600-block of Nelson Street for a report of a disturbance before noon on Monday. When officers arrived, they saw one of the people involved in the disturbance returned to the residence and began barricading themselves inside with a weapon.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators joined officers from the patrol division to defuse the situation and bring the person out safely. After several hours, the individual turned themselves over to officers. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said there were no injuries.
