Victoria Police Department says a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole in the 400-block of Burnside Road at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It was a trail of leaking fluid from a vehicle that led police in Victoria to a suspected impaired motorist.

The Victoria Police Department says a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole in the 400-block of Burnside Road at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

However, before officers arrived, the driver and the vehicle had left the scene.

Officers eventually found the driver and vehicle after following a trail of leaking vehicle fluid from the collision to the Harriet Road and Burnside Road East area.

Based on the driver’s behaviour, officers conducted a field sobriety test after suspecting the driver was impaired by drugs, say police.

As a result, the motorist was given a 24-hour driving prohibition and violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of a crash and a collision resulting in property damage.

Meanwhile, BC Hydro crews repaired the damaged hydro pole.

VicPD says the file is still under investigation and are asking anyone with information to call their non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, extension 1.
