
A man in Parksville was arrested for causing a disturbance, then when released the next day it was discovered he had sustained a serious injury.
The Independent Investigations Office is now investigating how the man became injured and whether police played a role in that.
On July 18, the man was arrested in the 100-block of Island Highway West for causing a disturbance.
He was lodged in the cells at the Oceanside detachment.
The man was released the next morning, at which time the officers realised he seemed unwell and called Emergency Health Services to bring him to hospital.
At the hospital it was discovered he had a serious injury.
The IIO was notified on July 20 of the incident and is now investigating.
