The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has found no connection to the actions or inaction of Victoria Police in the death of a child in March 2022.

On March 23, Victoria Police was called to conduct a wellness check on a mother and infant in the 900-block of Johnson Street. The next day, paramedics were called to the same parent and child around 7 p.m.

That same day, Victoria Police officers were called to the Victoria General Hospital for the sudden death of the child.

IIO and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit were conducting investigations into the death.

IIO has now determined that there is no connection to the police actions that led to the infant’s death. The Victoria Police investigation is still underway, according to IIO.
