Hundreds were in attendance Saturday for the memorial of Heather Jones, found dead on Salt Spring Island last month.

The Community Gospel Chapel on Salt Spring was packed with mourners. Music and speeches from community members filled the building.

A member of the church said that Heather was heavily involved on the island and will be missed by many.

The service lasted one hour but many stayed after to speak to one another and reflect.

Jones was the owner of Amber Cab Co. on Salt Spring.

We understand that the news of Heather’s death was shocking to all those who knew her and to the close-knit community of Salt Spring Island. We would like to thank the community of Salt Spring for their assistance and support throughout this investigation,  Sgt. John Ferguson of the Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit said in a release.
