A horse named Silver was rescued from a pond near Nanaimo on Wednesday.

UPDATE: The horse that was rescued on Wednesday was laid to rest due to injuries sustained during her rescue. 

Firefighters from Nanaimo helped to rescue a horse that was stuck in a pond on Wednesday.

The horse, named Silver, was trapped in the pond when Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to the call around 5 p.m. at the East Wellington Acreage. His owner was in the pond was trying to keep the animal’s head above the water and calm it down.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue said as the horse panicked, it risked going further into the pond.

Once the horse calmed down, a tether was tied to the horse. A group, including the owner and firefighters, managed to pull the horse out of the pond.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue said the horse appeared to be tired but unhurt in the incident.
