A northbound lane on Highway 19 in Nanaimo that was closed for several hours after a cement truck spill has reopened.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, a truck carrying cement travelling along Highway 19 on the Nanaimo Parkway had a mechanical failure and spilled its load onto the highway.
The spill occurred over approximately a kilometre in one of the northbound lanes.

The Highway 19 northbound right lane was closed over a three-kilometre stretch between Jingle Pot Road and Northfield Road local maintenance contractors cleaned up the cement and directed traffic.
The cleanup was finished by 3 p.m. and traffic was allowed back into the lane.
