Parts of Highway 14 through Sooke are open Saturday afternoon, after being closed for several hours due to downed power lines.

The area at the 5100-block of Sooke Road is open to single lane alternating traffic.

Officials say sections are still closed but detours are in place through Gillespie and Kangaroo Road.

B.C. Hydro and the Ministry of Transportation were working to clear the roads after strong winds hit the south-coast Friday night.

The storms also knocked out power for over 50,000 customers across B.C.

Drive B.C. also reports that Highway 14 between Sooke and Port Renfrew is closed due to a tree down between Cerantes Road and Blackfish Road.

Updates from Drive B.C. can be found here.
