Stuffed Nanaimo RCMP bear headed to Atlantic coast is latest RCMP public engagement initiative (Nanaimo RCMP)

Nanaimo RCMP are counting on the kindness of strangers to help the newest member of their community policing unit fulfill his dream of dipping his paws into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland.

The force plans to send its stuffed Nanaimo Bear — dressed in a red Mounties uniform — on a road trip with a note attached to its faux fur letting the public know about the journey and its ultimate goal of travelling to Newfoundland.

His first road trip will be to Chilliwack, home of the Mounties’ Pacific Regional Training Centre, but after that, people who come across Bear sitting on the side of the road, at a local coffee shop or maybe an airport will be asked to pick him up and take him along on their travels.

Who knows where Bear will go to from there but we hope through Facebook and Twitter (@Nanaimorcmp), and through #NanaimoBear , Canadians and visitors, far and wide, will post and share Bear’s many adventures, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
