BC Wildfire Services were called out to a fire on East Thurlow Island, where a home and wood shop were destroyed, according to a witness who captured the incident on video.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, helicopter crews near Rock Bay could be seen dumping water on the house fire and trying to prevent it from spreading to the surrounding forest.

A spokesperson from the Coastal Fire Centre said crews had to remain overnight and were continuing to work on the incident as of Saturday morning.

It isn’t clear what started the fire, but authorities confirmed that no one was injured by the blaze.

A witness told CHEK News that the structure fire completely destroyed a private residence and workshop.
