Habitat for Humanity to reopen stores in Greater Victoria
Habitat for Humanity Victoria's Langford location to reopen on May 14 under modified hours and will accept donations.

Habitat for Humanity has announced that it will be reopening one of its stores in the Greater Victoria area this coming week.

Starting May 14, Habitat for Humanity Victoria will reopen its ReStore on 849 Orono Ave in Langford to customers. The store, which will be operating under modified hours, will also be accepting donations.

“The modified hours are designed to allow our staff time to process donations and get online purchases ready to be picked up, clean the store and restock,” Jim Walker, director of retail operations, said in a press release, adding. “Any new donations we receive will go through a quarantine process followed by cleaning before they are made available for sale.”

The organization then plans to reopen its Uptown ReStore, located at 3311 Oak St., later in the month “once the new protocols” have been implemented.

The Tillicum ReStore, located on Burnside Road West, will not be reopening at all. Habitat for Humanity Victoria says they decided to let their lease end, resulting in the store’s permanent closure.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for our charity, but amid the uncertainty of the impacts of the current health crisis, we opted to let our lease end,” Yolanda Meijer, Habitat for Humanity Victoria chief executive officer, said in a press release. “We are extremely grateful to all of our staff, volunteers, donors and shoppers in the Gorge Tillicum area who welcomed us into their community and we hope to see them at our other two locations.”

ReStores sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, building supplies and home accessories. They also accept donations of used items.

The Langford location will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
