A grocery store worker in Greater Victoria has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to an April 14 notice posted on Sobey’s website, an employee at Thrifty Foods on Seventh Street in Sidney recently tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee’s last shift at the store was on April 3.

Sobey’s, which owns Thrifty Foods, does not disclose when employees test positive, saying instead that they work with public health to support those who become infected.

“We will always do everything we can to support our teammates and ensure their safety,” reads a statement on the company’s website.

It’s the first time since April 4 that Sobey’s has announced that a Thrifty Foods employee on Vancouver Island has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
