The BCHL season got underway last night on seven fronts.

One of those contests in Powell River where the Victoria Grizzlies were looking to gain two points.

It was a meeting of the top two teams from last season in the Island Division, with the Grizzlies claiming the regular season title by seven points over the Kings.

The Kings scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes and never looked back in an 8-2 victory over the Grizzlies.

The Kings had a 6-0 lead before Victoria found the back of the net in the second period.

Tim Friedman and Ethan Nother had the Victoria goals.

Jonny Evans led the Kings’ attack with a goal and three assists.

Meanwhile, the Nanaimo Clippers came back from a one-goal third period deficit to claim a 5-3 win on home ice over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Goals from Brady Lynn and Tristan Crozier 26 seconds apart with less than six minutes to play in the third to give Nanaimo a 3-2 lead.

Ben Perko’s goal 57 seconds later stood up as the winner for the Clippers.
