A fundraising effort is underway to support a popular Vancouver Island DJ who recently suffered catastrophic injuries.

Mat Andrew – better known as Mat The Alien – was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital on Friday following a mountain bike crash that has left him paralyzed from the chest down, according to a GoFundMe campaign.

“We’ve started this GoFundMe to help Mat with the costs associated with his recovery. Times are difficult for a lot of us right now, but Mat needs his family, friends and fans more then ever to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” the GoFundMe page says.

More than $118,000 has been raised for him since the GoFundMe was launched on Oct. 5.

The veteran DJ, who has performed and appeared at music festivals for more than two decades, remains in ICU on a breathing tube.
