A GoFundMe has been launched for the family of a Lake Cowichan man killed in a logging truck accident in Cumberland late last month.

The 43-year-old was killed when logs from a passing logging truck fell onto the vehicle he was sitting in on May 24. A woman who was also inside the vehicle survived with injuries.

Police have not publicly identified the victim, but family members have identified the man as Andrew Linklater. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

A GoFundMe has just been launched by Linklater’s sister, Summer Muzyka, in an effort to raise money to support his wife and children. She is hoping to raise $10,000.

“Life is already so expensive and [his wife] can’t go to work until she makes sure her kids are okay and doing better. With no dual-income and funerals expenses, bills, rent, groceries, gas and all the bills are piling up,” the GoFundMe reads. “I want to take this financial burden from her so she can grief properly, take care of herself and the kids (my nephews and niece) and not worry about all the bills.”

According to Comox Valley RCMP, the logging truck had made a left turn from the Comox Valley Parkway onto the northbound Highway 19 on-ramp when its trailer tipped over, spilling dozens of logs on top of the vehicle Linklater was sitting in. RCMP have said the vehicle was parked on the shoulder.

In the GoFundMe, Muzyka calls the incident a horrific accident that should have never happened.

“We are all so devastated. We are in disbelief. We are hurting. We don’t know how we will ever find happiness again,” she writes.
