Gas prices around Victoria could be seen as high as 194.9 today, causing many to rush to fill up their vehicles before the increase came to all stations.

On GasBuddy, as of 3:45 p.m., Costco had the lowest prices in the Victoria region at 172.9, and the Esso on Hillside and Petro Canada on Sooke Road had the highest at 194.9.

In Question Period at the B.C. legislature, the BC Liberals raised the issue of high gas prices to ask what the government would be doing to address the high costs.

“Drivers are now faced with costs close to $2 a litre in gas, not for premium gasoline, Mr. Speaker, but for regular. British Columbians have been paying the highest prices in Canada for weeks,” said Peter Milobar, BC Liberal critic for finance. “British Columbians are desperate for help as everyday costs keep to rise and the Premier is simply not delivering. Will the premier takes steps today to help British Columbians deal with the high price of gas?”

Bruce Ralston, minister of energy, mines and petroleum resources said the increase in costs of gas in the province were due to the war in Ukraine, and the COVID restrictions lifting resulting in people getting out in their cars more.

Milobar then pointed out the province has had record high gas prices since before the war in Ukraine.

This is a developing story, more will be added as details become available.
