A section of Goldstream Avenue was closed while crews responded to a gas line that was damaged.

FortisBC says third-party damage to a gas line on Goldstream Avenue resulted in five buildings being evacuated Thursday afternoon.

Jas Baweja, corporate communications specialist with FortisBC, tells CHEK News that crews were called to the area around 1:15 p.m. and arrived on scene around 1:20.

He says gas was under control around 4 p.m. and evacuees have since been allowed to return to the buildings.

Baweja says the gas line took almost three hours to get under control due to it being six feet underground and near multiple other utilities, requiring an extensive excavation.

It will take some time to repair, but Baweja says crews are working to get it done as “quickly and safely as possible.”

As of 5 p.m., crews remain on scene to repair the damage to the gas line.

CHEK News has reached out to Langford Fire for more information and will update this story when a response is received.
