Anyone who needs their vehicle fueled will want to do so quickly, as the price of gas has spiked at a number of stations around Vancouver Island.

Gas Buddy says the price of unleaded fuel has climbed up a dime per litre to 136.9 cents at many fueling spots around Victoria and the south Island.

The website also says gas in Mill Bay and Duncan is at 133.9 cents per litre.

In the north Island, Port Hardy and Port McNeill are both showing 136.9.

Gas Buddy Senior Petroleum Analyst Dan McTeague says B.C. is reliant on the U.S. for gas and American fuel suppliers are not selling it cheap.

McTeague says the wholesale price in today’s market for a gas station owner is 85.2 cents a litre, plus over 40 cents is added for a federal excise tax, GST and provincial carbon and transit taxes.

McTeague added stations are raising prices to restore what they have lost in the past week.
