Gale force winds and high waves on Island’s West coast prompt warning

A gale force wind warning remained in effect from the Government of Canada for the West Coast of Vancouver Island on Saturday morning.

The warning anticipated wind speeds as high as 35 knots from Saturday morning through to Sunday afternoon.

Waves were expected to reach up to five metres in height, subsiding to three metres overnight and then increasing back to four metres Sunday morning.

Footage from Sombrio Beach on Friday showed huge waves crashing into the rocky cliffs.
