An online fundraising campaign to support the family of a man killed in a hit and run crash Monday in Campbell River.

The GoFundMe page has identified the man as 39-year-old Chris Pys who “lived his life for his family, his farm and his friends.”

Pys leaves behind his fiance and partner of 21 years and two sons.

The fundraising page says he did not have life insurance.

Early Monday morning, Pys was driving to work when his Volkswagen was hit by an oncoming pick-up truck at the intersection of Highway 19A and Jubilee Parkway.

Pys was the lone occupant of the vehicle that flipped several times after the collision and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He was airlifted to Victoria but did not survive his injuries.

The 41-year-old female driver of the truck left the scene with significant damage to her vehicle.

She was arrested later that morning at her Oyster River area residence.

The GoFundMe page says Pys’ family is thankful to first responders and hospital staff for their efforts to save him.
