One man dead and one woman in custody after Campbell River hit and run

One man has died, and one woman is in custody following a fatal hit an run in Campbell River early Monday morning.

RCMP say the man was driving in the northbound lane of Highway 19 at the Jubilee Parkway turnoff around 5:20 a.m. when his vehicle was hit by a truck.

The man’s car, a Volkswagen, flipped several times after being struck ? he was attended to by witnesses before an ambulance arrived.

Officials say he succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save him, after he was airlifted to hospital.

Campbell River RCMP then took a 41-year-old woman into custody at a residence after she contacted them around 11 a.m. to advise that she had been involved in the accident.

Investigators located the suspect vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Tundra with front-end damage, at the residence where she was arrested, and say the truck is registered in her name.

Several charges are expected but are still pending.

The vehicle was parked in a driveway in the Oyster River area.

Police are not sure if the Volkswagen was coming from the Campbell River airport or if it was turning from the southbound lane of Highway 19 to Jubilee Parkway.

Northbound traffic was closed in the area until just before 11 a.m. as an assessment of the crash was conducted.
