WatchA Nanaimo family is seizing every memory they can make this Christmas as both young parents face stage 4 cancer, with 3 kids to care for.

Cindra Caverley never expected her home would be decorated this Christmas.

“No way,” said the Nanaimo resident.

In a tragic coincidence, both her and her husband Bruce are battling stage 4 cancer, and what energy they have goes to caring for their three young kids.

“Two parents and two younger parents,” said Cindra Caverley.

“Even when they were diagnosing Bruce, they were saying you are so young to be going through this,” she said.

“It’s just heartwrenching,” said longtime friend Dona May Hegglund.

“These are two of the most wonderful people you could ever meet.

The Nanaimo mother was very surprised when she recently walked out to a fully decorated front yard and home.

“I think it’s incredible,” said Caverley.

On Sunday, a work crew of 30 friends and former co-workers showed up at the Caverley’s Nanaimo home and followed the map of previous Christmas decorations that Bruce drew out from his hospital bed.

“He did,” said Caverley.

“He made them a map from the hospital bed.”

All so his kids could enjoy at least one part of Christmas that they’ve always grown up with, knowing the 48-year-old couldn’t do it himself.

“Everyone came and within two-and-a-half hours, it was done and it was beautiful,” said Caverley.

“So it’s incredible. It just shows how supported we are.”

“By the time she came out we had balls on the tree and lights on the roof,” said Hegglund.

Bringing them all to tears in the process, as they gave the family a house full of light when they are facing so much darkness.

“Oh my gosh, it’s just that joy of Christmas like when you were a kid,” said Caverley.

“Yeah I love it and I know that my kids love this. They were like giddy running around on Sunday.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Caverley’s cope as they enjoy every memory of this Christmas as though it could be their last.
