It is a difficult time for family and friends of 29-year old Vanessa Pettinger.

The Central Saanich mother of two remains in hospital in intensive care suffering from head and brain injuries.

Pettinger was the passenger in a vehicle that went off the road and struck a tree on Burnside West in Saanich early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews arrived on scene around 2:20 a.m. to find Pettinger and the male driver still trapped inside the vehicle.

In a message posted to Facebook on Sunday, Vanessa’s father wrote “She was removed from the vehicle by the jaws of life and is now in ICU with head and brain injuries.”

Daryl Pettinger added “Judith, Kate and I could use your prayers to help with Vanessa’s recovery.”

Saanich Police confirm the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The driver has been released from hospital.

Close friend Kimberlee Lott has also set up a Gofundme Page to support Vanessa and her family.

She writes that her friends want to help her as she would helped all of them.

“You’re a fighter, you can fight through this. Love you!” her message reads.
