People in the Greater Victoria area can expect a gusty end to their week as Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Friday afternoon.

The weather agency says that westerly winds will hit the Greater Victoria area late this afternoon and last into the early evening on April 8.

Wind speeds are expected to clock between 70 km/hr and 90 km/hr near the Juan de Fuca Strait.

Environment Canada says that the winds are coming ahead of an offshore ridge of high pressure and that the high winds should ease overnight.

Due to the velocity of the winds, the agency is warning about the risk of tree limb breakage and power outages.

Any power updates can be monitored on BC Hydro’s Outages Map online.
