Island Health has added four Greater Victoria schools to the COVID-19 exposure list as of Monday morning.

According to the health authority and Greater Victoria School District, exposures have been reported at Margaret Jenkins Elementary, View Royal Elementary, Central Middle School, and Strawberry Vale Elementary School.

The reported exposure at Margaret Jenkins Elementary occurred on April 19, 20, 21, 22 & 26.

The reported exposure at View Royal Elementary occurred on April 23.

The reported exposure at Central Middle School occurred on April 20, 21, 23, and 26.

And the reported exposure at Strawberry Vale Elementary School occurred on April 26, 2021.

According to Island Health, exposure is defined as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

In addition to these four Greater Victoria schools, Island Health has sixteen other facilities currently on its School Exposure list.

On Monday, both Cowichan Valley Open in Duncan and Departure Bay Elementary were the latest facilities added to the list.

Island Health notes that if a parent or guardian sees a notification on the health authority’s school exposure site, it does not necessarily mean their child has been exposed to COVID-19.

Island Health outlines that Public Health members work with the school and school district to ensure close contacts are notified directly and provided specific guidance.

If a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health, a child can continue to attend school, Island Health notes.
