Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreak over at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).

“With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in acute sites, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to this outbreak at the site,” reads a statement from Island Health.

Island Health declared an outbreak on the High Intensity Rehab Unit at NRGH on April 14.

In total, six patients and one staff member tested positive related to this outbreak.

Island Health says the High Intensity Rehab Unit at NRGH is now open to new admissions and transfers.

“We want to acknowledge our staff and medical staff who provided excellent care to our patients under challenging circumstances, everyone involved in our COVID response, and our community for your ongoing support,” says Island Health.

With the outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital declared over, just two active outbreaks remain on Vancouver Island.

One outbreak is at the Mount St. Mary Long-Term Care and the other is at the Craigdarroch long-term care home, both of which are located in Victoria.
